How handing over the photos works
I know these are the only copies. Nobody hands over a box of family photographs lightly, so here’s exactly what happens to them from the moment they leave your hands to the moment they come back.
I collect them from you
In person, at your home. I count what I’m taking with you there and then, so we both have the same list. It all gets placed into a fireproof, water resistant box.
You get a written receipt
A note of what I’ve taken and roughly when you’ll have it back, before I leave your house.
They stay in my care, not a courier’s
Everything stays in the box at my home while it’s being scanned. Nothing is posted away to a third party, your photos do not leave my custody.
I bring them back myself
Originals and USB sticks together, checked off against the same list you were given at the start.
If you’d rather not let the photos out of the house at all, say so when you ring. In home scanning is available for a moderate fee.

Questions people ask me
What if the photos are already damaged, faded?
That’s most boxes, so it’s expected rather than a problem. I do what I can to bring back detail and colour as I scan, and I’ll never force a print out of an album if it risks tearing it.
My photos aren’t loose, they are in albums, can you do those too?
Potentially yes but it’s a bigger, slower job and is very dependent on the type of album. It can carry extra risk to the photos as they have to be removed to be scanned.
Can you do slides, framed photos and negatives as well as prints?
No, my equipment will not be able to scan them, you need a more specialised service.
Mine aren’t sorted at all, they’re just loose in boxes. Does that matter?
Not for scanning them, no. If you’d like them grouped by rough date or event in the folders you get back, tell me anything you know about them as I take them, and I’ll do my best with the rest.
What happens to the digital copies once I have the USB sticks?
Nothing on my end, they’re deleted from my equipment once you’ve confirmed everything’s opened and readable. I provide everything on two USB sticks. That way you already have a backup to share with family or to keep somewhere else safe.
Can I add more photos partway through, or go over the number I booked?
Yes, just say so when I collect them or ring me while they’re with me. I’ll tell you the extra cost before I scan a single one more than agreed.
What if I find more boxes after this batch is done?
That happens often. There’s no minimum for a second visit, and I’ll already know how you like your folders organised, so it’s quicker the second time round.
